Photon Correlation Spectroscopy (PCS)
(aka Quasi-elastic light scattering QELS or dynamic light scattering DLS)

The size of particles in the range of about 5-400 nm can very easily be determined by this method. The measurement is based on the fluctuations of the scattered laser light as the particles diffuse in the environment (water or other dispersion medium) (based on the Brownian molecuar motion). PCS is applied at the Department on a routine basis to determine the size and homogeneity of particles, such as liposomes, nanoemulsions, nanoparticles, and lipoplexes.
